Leon Ciesla
Pd 2

9/10/12

Thursday was color guard practice for the ROTC. After seventh period I went down the stairs from Mr. Kegels class and down the hall to ROTC fighting the current of students attempting to leave. Walking down the hall some of my friends and fellow ROTC members begin to appear. I enter the classroom and see my friend, I immediately thought someone I know who is not from my period. Then he said “sorry Sergeant I have to go” something with his mom would have prevented him from getting a ride after practice was done. He couldn’t miss the bus.  We stood around for a while, people slowly entering and grouping with friends. I’m currently talking with the group commander, and some of the other period’s flight commanders. My period’s flight commander Warren cannot be there like the others he is on the football team and will be playing the games that we open with color guard. We are addressed by sergeant to take our seats and begin the one and half hour practice.

We are addressed and an attendance sheet is passed around with which you write your name with first initial and last name L. Ciesla, and your period as Aerospace rank /period 1/6. Sergeant holds up the sheet passed around a week ago and says over forty people said they would be here you twenty or so is all that showed up thank you for being here.  This was probably expected and he was glad many people put their names down knowing a fraction would show up. Half of forty is better than half of twenty.
We talk for a short while and are instructed to get our tools half the class gets Daisy Dummy ceremony guns modeled after 1903 Remington Springfields  with filled barrels and closed trigger and action there is no way to make it shoot. He also told us if he sees us point it at someone in an I’m going to shoot you kind of way they would leave and not come back. None of us broke this rule and we went out to practice it took me a good hour to get the movements right and we practiced with separate color guards of five people and drilled until it was over .
