This article is explaining the massive amount of income and expenses generated by college football teams and basketball teams. It talks about the athletic programs of Ohio State with an annual budget of 109’382’222 for all of its sports programs. The article says that revenue for almost all of its teams is funded by the football and basketball teams. The school even has a private jet.
The school is bringing in its money from the football and basketball teams as discussed, but more specifically from football ticket sales 31.65 million dollars in ticket sales account for most of their sports budget. They also got almost 4 million from the NCAA just for getting to the championships. To give a comparison in order to see how essential the football team is thinking of it this way, hockey there costs 1.2 million dollars and only brings in 1,600 something dollars, everything else is payed for by the football team.
UF brought in an astounding 34 million dollars in ticket sales after winning. This is in ticket sales alone.
The schools are using this money for paying for other varsity teams and are also sending some money back into the programs. With expenses like a private jet for recruiting and remodeling there stadiums they need to keep making their money. Not to mention without a football team they wouldn’t have very many other teams.
The reason it is so important for colleges to have a strong football program is so schools can have a source of high level income. This could bring other sports to the college as stated above. Without a strong football team the college won’t get as much money as possible and prices elsewhere could rise.
My opinion on this dependability on the football team is indifferent if the team is good the college will benefit but what about if the team isn’t so good and the football team is falling behind in expenses itself this could be very bad.
My conclusion to this article is a good football team is priceless and the marketing and competition around it is growing.

college

                                                                                                                                          Leon Ciesla
This article is explaining the rising difficulty to get enough money and graduate from college. The inflation and rising prices for college are outpacing the income of families by a staggering percentage. Most people need to work an amazing amount of jobs and hours to get a third of the money they will need. Studies show that working more than twenty five hours a week hurts your test scores. The sad thing is some work fifty hours a week. The article also explains the hardships of specific people and their endeavors to pay their way through college which the article also says is a sort of a bad joke these days. The fifty hours a week I work I mentioned is carried out by a man named Paul Dinehart is barely squeaking through a college considered cheap. Many students in the article talk of dropping out and resuming some other time due to lack of funds. The article also explains how so many students need to pull out loans and are getting crushed by the dept. tuition in most all colleges has more than doubled in a short time. It emphasizes in particular the public options which traditionally were the more affordable option.
So many new students to these colleges have to work their way through college due to the rising prices. Small loans family help and a small job are nowhere near producing the dollars to pay for college prices that have boarded a small space craft and are soaring upward. With three jobs stacked along with family help the prices for college still go way above the students’ ability.
Financial aid has moved away from giving need-based grants down the path to student loans. Financial aid is falling behind the tuition prices as well rising at a slower pace than that of the tuition price.
The dropout rate is high due to the rising prices but tuition isn’t the only issue from personal accounts and family the price for supplies especially books. Amending dropout rates is a matter of helping the economy.
For UCF the school my dad went to recently for his masters in criminal justice costs $1’405 for five hours a credit course for my luckily being a Florida resident for non Florida residents its triple that.
I plan to pay for my college with military scholarships and other scholarships along with the multiple college funds saved up for me.
My opinion is if tuition prices don’t get fixed our education will continue on the downscale with our world competition.
Conclusion is that too many people don’t have enough money to pay for this and that the inflation is killing us along with not enough income to pay for anything.

X Games

The article is explaining the advancement and rise in popularity of the x games. The rising payment of players increased coverage for fans on recreational sports such as skateboarding, snowboarding, and BMX. People like Shaun white are earning more and more money due to increased viewing. There are also company endorsements and sponsorships that bring benefits to the athlete, and provide a walking talking advertisement for these companies that are on the rise yet downfall. The expansion of X games to new countries and new athletes. The amount of money coming into the program is on the rise as well bigger companies bigger pay bigger fan base it’s getting bigger. With ESPN paving the way for these sports it will probably continue to make the headway it’s making now. Being an entertainment in sports giant it will be sure to advertise and gain popularity in all aspects of sports. These sports are gaining popularity among all audiences and this will increase the business of companies that make these products. To me it looks like all, there doing is working out a new market to earn money from audiences that they had no profits coming from before.

I think the reason X games has gotten so popular is the excitement. Most people who watch X games play those sports and never had a celebrity to talk about or a competition. The sports seem more fun to me than football they call them extreme sports for a reason. Personally I would rather snowboard than play football and I think that’s the mentality behind watching them. Maybe people are just getting tired of professional sports want to change. Trying something new and the more and more young people are skating and watching the X games. Even so some people may just want something to watch during the off season.

Businesses are interested in having X games endorse their products because if they sell skateboards they never have had anyone to endorse their products before. They are also interested in the rising popularity.

X games salaries have jumped due to increased popularity and the more money companies are making the more athletes are getting sponsorships and ESPN has more viewers so they may also be raising their base salaries.

X games was started in 1993 with the first games in 1995 ESPN wanted to bring together international athletes in action sports.

In conclusion between X games starting and the increased popularity over the years I think the popularity will continue to rise and even more money will flow through this event. Along with more athletes becoming a part of the system.

This whole article is about the rising cost to go to after school curricular activities, and the hardships along with it. The cost for sports, band, fieldtrips, and other after school activities is increasing rapidly. In a desperate attempt to bring in funds no longer supplied by the county city or state. High school students should pay money to engage in after school activities but these prices are insane. It helps the school and allows them more leeway to get to the necessary purchases, but the dwindling economy still affects us. We are slammed with the purchases of not so essential products and less essential but still needed and expensive items such as books, and band instruments, or here the rental of an ROTC uniform. On the other hand should definitely pay the fees the school needs help despite the price as long as it won’t force you to go bankrupt or starve then consider helping the school. Plus despite the price after school activities and sports are a fun and involving things to do. The exclusion of an outside activity over price will just land them bored coach potatoes. The alternatives to this are doing nothing or seeking the schools mercy upon your situation. It is good to help in time of need so ask for it and give at the same interval. Get the school to lower your cost and finding ways to pay it back. Getting free or reduced lunch, calling it good, and doing nothing won’t fix anything. Everyone needs to work together. And some problems like books can be solved through online textbook usage the internet doesn’t use a paper page to be marked by graffiti and torn up. Switching to digital sounds more pricy but overhead projectors are already in every classroom at most schools using online textbooks will eliminate needs to buy expensive and breakable textbooks. My opinion is pay if you can and seek help if you can’t, the price is insane but sometimes cuts to unnecessary aspects such as iPod music, just watch YouTube on it and find alternatives. The tough times are tough you must find ways around these things to incorporate cheaper alternatives.

9/10/12

Thursday was color guard practice for the ROTC. After seventh period I went down the stairs from Mr. Kegels class and down the hall to ROTC fighting the current of students attempting to leave. Walking down the hall some of my friends and fellow ROTC members begin to appear. I enter the classroom and see my friend, I immediately thought someone I know who is not from my period. Then he said “sorry Sergeant I have to go” something with his mom would have prevented him from getting a ride after practice was done. He couldn’t miss the bus.  We stood around for a while, people slowly entering and grouping with friends. I’m currently talking with the group commander, and some of the other period’s flight commanders. My period’s flight commander Warren cannot be there like the others he is on the football team and will be playing the games that we open with color guard. We are addressed by sergeant to take our seats and begin the one and half hour practice.

We are addressed and an attendance sheet is passed around with which you write your name with first initial and last name L. Ciesla, and your period as Aerospace rank /period 1/6. Sergeant holds up the sheet passed around a week ago and says over forty people said they would be here you twenty or so is all that showed up thank you for being here.  This was probably expected and he was glad many people put their names down knowing a fraction would show up. Half of forty is better than half of twenty.
We talk for a short while and are instructed to get our tools half the class gets Daisy Dummy ceremony guns modeled after 1903 Remington Springfields  with filled barrels and closed trigger and action there is no way to make it shoot. He also told us if he sees us point it at someone in an I’m going to shoot you kind of way they would leave and not come back. None of us broke this rule and we went out to practice it took me a good hour to get the movements right and we practiced with separate color guards of five people and drilled until it was over .

Marketing is the creation, maintenance, and satisfaction of exchange relationships.
The satisfaction of customers is important to maintaining business. Satisfied customers buy and promote products for and from you. Happy customers buy your product bringing in profit, and continuing your business. They promote by using it and telling friends. In sports marketing you also promote things through commercials, and connecting fans to famous people like having a famous player wear Nikes. Customer satisfaction is important to staying in the game of buying and selling. Without these consumers your business will fail so it is important to always make the best product and advertisement to satisfy customers.

Sports’ marketing is the use of sports to market products. Selling products such as a base ball, or special brand of bats because that’s what the pros use. To sell your brand of shoes cause Michael Jordan wears them this is sports marketing. Some real life examples are the sale of Spalding as the official basketball of the N.B.A. or the Wilson as the official football of N.F.L.
Or Under armor because most players wear it to wick away sweat; this is especially handy because many famous people use Under armor so the general public will flock to buy it. Gatorade is also very popular cause nearly every team in every league uses it.

Entertainment marketing is the use of entertainment to market off a product. Commercials are the most common way a simple video with the right content is an easy way to sell a product. It is important to not overdue or make your product look stupid to achieve a profit by selling your product in commercials. Also banners around games in a football stadium show off your product and announce yourself as a supporter of the Game. Recreational marketing is the selling of products like skiing states don’t have ski teams but companies sell these skates to consumers for recreational purposes selling their products on record breakers and personal riders.
